To become a successfull punter you need to know how to stake your bets, and indeed many proffessional punters agree that picking winners is only half the battle, staking being the other half. So if you want to make the most from your betting - keep reading.
There are many different ways to stake, ranging from the simple level stakes to the more complicated plans, requiring a good deal of working out.
The reason why staking plans are so important, are that they give:
- controle over your starting bank.
- a good way to record your bets (for later analysis).
- calculate the size of your stake for you, (taking out the human factor).
- can maximise profit's / reduce losses.
These are just a few benefits of using a staking plan, as for which staking plan is best - there is no answer, some people will swear by one staking plan - while many would disagree. Either way it's really just personal preferance, what suites your circumstances, and the strike rate of the selections you will be using. I personally use many different staking plans for different types of bets.
For a beginner i would reccomend either the 'level stakes' or '% staking'.
Next up - 'betting bank' - this is the ammount of money you will be using to bet with. You can set aside however much money you want / can afford to bet with, though i strongly reccomend that you use a sum that you can safely afford to lose. Treat it like a purchase, as once you have set up a betting bank it's not money in the bank anymore - like a night out, or a new pair of trainers if you will, once it's been spent - it's gone. I personally never start a betting bank of more than £1000, and i bet for a living.
For a beginner it's hard to reccomend a starting bank, as different people can afford to lose different sums of money. A proffesional footballer may grab the back page headlines for gambling away tens of thousands of pounds, but in comparrison it's just the same as 'joe bloggs' from london blows his weeks wages of £300 in the betting shop. All i will say is be sensible, start off small and hopefully that small acorn of a bank will grow, with time, patience and disicplined betting into a mighty oak of a betting bank.
Putting all your bets into a spreadsheet like microsoft excel, is highly reccomended as you can use different calculations within the spreadsheet to work out everything for you, such as 'next stake', 'profit', 'strike rate' etc...... The data is also readily available for manipulation aswell, so you can experiment with different staking plans for example.
