On August 2, 2007, Davydenko was at the centre of a gambling controversy follow his retirement in the 2nd Round of the Orange Prokom Open in Poland to world number 87, Martin Vassallo Arguello. Internet betting exchange Betfair reported strange betting patterns before and during the game and have reported the activity to the ATP.

Following consultation with the men’s professional tennis tour, the ATP, Betfair decided to void all bets placed on the match.

Betfair took this course of action in the interests of maintaining integrity and fairness in all Betfair markets.

Davydenko's odd's to win pre match were 1.2 (a £1 bet would mean 20p profit if it won) making him heavy favourite, he won the first set but for some reason his odd's started to drift out rapidly with the ammount of cash being bet on him to lose. At 1 set up his odd's were a staggering 5.3 (a £1 bet would mean £4.30 if it won).

As you can imagine for someones odd's to drift that much when in reality they should be shortening, something fishy must be going on. especially as £7,000,000 was wagered on the match - thats 10 times more than usual.

Davydenko then proceded to lose the next set and retire with a (FAKE?) injury.

The betting exchange betfair also thaught something was seriously wrong with the way the game was being played and with the dodgy betting so voided the match and returned all stakes.

he's in more trouble now after being warned by the umpire and fined for - not trying.
